What is an implant

When the lens is removed during cataract surgery, it also removes the natural focusing ability of the eye. To replace this, an artificial lens (an intraocular lens) is implanted inside the eye in the same location as previously occupied by the natural lens. This replacement lens is capable of restoring vision to near normal, although reading glasses may be needed. The patient will not be able to feel the intraocular lens, which are held in place by flexible loops and will never have to be handled, adjusted or cleaned.

These implants are available in all range of powers, often enabling patients to achieve better vision than before the operation.
