The Eye
Light rays enter the eye through the cornea (a transparent layer of tissue), which
then bends them through the pupil (dark round spot in the centre of the coloured
iris) and onto the lens.
The lens of the human eye is similar in operation to the lens of a camera. Lying directly behind the pupil, its function is to focus incoming light rays onto the retina at the back of the eye. Images are transmitted to the brain from here in the form of electrical impulses travelling by way of the optic nerve.
Diagram of the Eye and its Parts

The eye has been called the most complex organ in the body. It is amazing that something so small can have so many working parts and be capable of achieving all the complexities of vision.
