Lens implantation

Then incision into the eye is then enlarged to 3.2 mm and a foldable lens is inserted. This wound is self sealing in the majority of patients and as such does not need a suture to hold it closed. The lens is inserted into the bag that the lens was originally in and this capsule holds it in place.

The new synthetic lens sits nicely in the bag, centred in the pupil by the spring haptics on either side of the lens.

As can be seen from the picture the use of the folding lens in this modern technique, leads to a far smaller incision and means that sutures that may irritate the eye are not required.
